On National Voter Registration Day 2024, President urges library professionals to get Reader Voter Ready

WASHINGTON – On National Voter Registration Day, also Constitution Day, President Cindy Hohl issued the following letter to library professionals:

Dear colleagues,

Today is National Voter Registration Day. As president of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app, I am inspired by the countless ways that libraries foster civic engagement in our communities and proud to be part of a profession that is dedicated to public service and democratic engagement.

Today is also Constitution Day, another civic holiday that calls on each of us to consider how we, individually and as a professional community, can help our nation move closer to the promise of a participatory democracy.

Our work makes a difference.

That is why I am calling on everyone in the library community to get Reader Voter Ready today and:

  • . Let's show our communities what Reader Voter Ready looks like.
  • . Whether promoting a program, announcing important election deadlines, or looking for information about what other libraries are doing, offers resources and information to help.
  • . I've been privileged to hear from colleagues across library types and around the country that are preparing current and future voters. This work is too important to keep to ourselves. Help us show others how integral libraries are to preparing voters for elections. Use the link provided or tag us on social media: #ReaderVoterReady.

Keep an eye on the Reader Voter Ready website and social channels for more information in the coming weeks, when we'll share more voter engagement stories from libraries and celebrate National Voter Education Week.

The 2024 elections will be consequential for libraries and the communities we serve. Again, thank you for helping voters make their voices heard.

Cindy
