CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) formally commends the (NCCAT), approving a resolution made by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA), an AASL Chapter. AASL annually recognizes outstanding programs, events, and products nominated by AASL Chapters for their support of the school librarian profession and the learners the profession serves. "The North Carolina School Library Media Association is thrilled for AASL to commend the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) for their support of teachers and librarians through professional development programs like ‘The NC Media Specialist's Connection,’” said NCSLMA Treasurer Jennifer Milton. “The ability to collaborate, advocate, cultivate relationships, and form partnerships with school librarians across the state is invaluable and praised by all educators who benefit from NCCAT's programs. These sessions aid school librarians as we endeavor to expand accessibility, increase information literacy, and combat censorship to engage students and increase achievement. For more than three decades, NCCAT's varied offerings, whether residential, school based, virtual, or online, have helped educators transfer research into practice, remaining true to the core mission - retaining and growing NC educators. We are proud and grateful to have such a supportive, innovative, and impactful program here in North Carolina."

AASL President Becky Calzada added, “Our AASL Chapters have brought forth eighteen stellar commendations. These recognitions highlight the advocacy of intellectual freedom, access of inclusive literature, celebrates students' use of media and technology that incorporates the integration of AASL Standards and advances the understanding of school librarians as educators. The AASL Board of Directors is grateful for the keen eyes of our state chapter leaders for bringing these resolutions forward. Commendations acknowledge and expand awareness of the important work happening in many local communities in support of school libraries, school librarians and the learners they serve.”
