CHICAGO—Tina M. Neville and Deborah B. Henry, librarians at Nelson Poynter Memorial Library, University of South Florida St. Petersburg have been awarded the 2018 Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award for the article, “”, published in Library Resources and Technical Services (LRTS), volume 61, no. 3 (July 2017), pages 124-133. The Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award is given to the author of the best paper published each year in LRTS, the official journal of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS). The author will receive $250 and a citation in recognition of her work.

“Repositories at Master’s Institutions” takes a thorough snapshot of institutional repositories embedded in Carnegie-designated master’s level institutions and analyzes their size, types of content, the platforms used for data storage, and discoverability. No other study has examined the IR’s of this group of academic institutions, nor so carefully analyzed their faculty, student, and other types of content while also gathering data on their platforms, or comparing discoverability using Google, OpenDOAR, ROAR and institutional websites. By comparing discoverability using several vehicles, the authors discovered that “Google searching appears to be the most successful way to discover IRs and produced the most unique number of IRs, i.e., those not found elsewhere.” In conclusion, “This study benchmarks IR development in Carnegie-designated master’s institutions”, finding that the nature of their content appears very similar to that found in other study populations, whether at teaching or research institutions”.

The award will be presented on June 23, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2018 ϲʿapp () Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans, La.
