Curriculum and campus innovators will lead the “Libraries Transform – Education Innovation” plenary session, Saturday morning February 10^th from 8:30 – 10:00 am, at the Colorado Convention Center, Room 405/407. Part of the at the in Denver, the education innovation session offers attendees a chance to learn with experts about the future of education and learning.

Featured speakers Nina Sharma of the University of Denver’s Project X-ITE and Peter Piccolo of Denver Public School’s Imaginarium Innovation Lab will be joined by ACRL President Cheryl Middleton, Associate University Librarian for Research & Scholarly Communication at Oregon State University Libraries and Press (OSULP), and AASL member leader Ann Ewbank, Associate Professor and Library Media Program Director at Montana State University.

As Managing Director for the , Nina Sharma leads a cross-disciplinary institutional hub for entrepreneurial education and engagement across faculty, students and stakeholders. Through events including Colorado Solutions Summit, programs like the Pioneering Summer Accelerator, and their X-Lab co-working space, Project X-ITE stimulates conversation among students, alumni, faculty, industry leaders, academic leaders, and others on the topics of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Peter Piccolo has supported innovation in a variety of sectors throughout most of his 27-year career and most recently served as Executive Director of Innovation at Denver Public Schools where he founded and led the , a public education innovation lab. As leader of the Imaginarium, Peter focused on stimulating and supporting innovation throughout Denver Public Schools to transform learning and public education systems. The Imaginarium empowers students, teachers, leaders, community stakeholders, and staff to design and launch innovative schools, learning experiences, products and services, and education policies and systems through human centered design and best practices in research, strategic planning, and cultural proficiency. Through its work with , the Imaginarium helps create productive outcomes for students, staff, and communities.

Cheryl Middleton is the Associate University Librarian for Research & Scholarly Communication at Oregon State University Libraries and Press (OSULP). In addition to her leadership roles within the Association of College and Research Libraries, Cheryl has served on the Greater Western Library Alliance Libraries Impact on Student Learning Task Force and on the Oregon Library Association Conference Committee. Her publications include “Magical Thinking: Moving Beyond Natural Bias to Examine Core Services” in Letting Go of Legacy Services: Library Case Studies (2014); co-authorship of “Management of Library Course Reserves and the Textbook Affordability Crisis,” Journal of Access Services (2009); and co-authorship of “Student Strategies for Coping with the High Cost of Textbooks and the Role of Academic Library Course Reserves,” portal: Libraries and the Academy (2009).

Dr. Ann Dutton Ewbank is Associate Professor, Director of Accreditation & Operations, and Program Director for Library Media at Montana State University. She has served as a high school and middle school social studies and language arts teacher, a middle school and academic librarian, and has taught teacher education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Dr. Ewbank researches school library advocacy and has written extensively across the school library literature. She is the chair of AASL’s Knowledge Quest Editorial Board and a past president of the Arizona Library Association. Dr. Ewbank was named one of Library Journal’s “Movers and Shakers” in 2009.

The Symposium on the Future of Libraries, organized by , is included with 2018 Midwinter Meeting and Exhibits full registration. In addition to plenary sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in three days of sessions exploring the many futures for academic, public, school and special libraries.
