CHICAGO — The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app () Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender and Government Documents Round Tables (GLBTRT and GODORT) are proud to announce Courtney Young as the 2018 recipient of the Larry Romans Mentorship Award.

The Award's namesake, Larry Romans, mentored numerous librarians at Vanderbilt University, where he worked for over 30 years. For decades, he was also tremendous leader and mentor in the Tennessee Library Association, providing a positive influence on the association and the careers of innumerable librarians, many of whom have gone on to be leaders in . Of particular note, during his 23 years of service to Council, Larry mentored countless new and veteran councilors.

“Courtney’s extensive record of mentorship includes a decade of work with the New Members Round Table as well as mentees from Library and Information Science programs around the country and librarians from nearly every type of library,” said Jen Maguire-Wright, chair, GLBTRT. “Her service to the library community has benefitted us all tremendously.”

"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized with this award named after a tireless mentor who gave so much to the profession,” Young said. “I am a better librarian for having served on Council and the Executive Board with Larry. Thank you to my nominators and the joint GLBTRT-GODORT selection committee for this special award."

“The letters of support received as part of Courtney’s nomination are filled with personal stories about the profound impact of Courtney’s mentorship on the lives and careers of so many in our profession,” said Ann Marshall, chair of the GODORT Awards Committee. “I was particularly moved by how much of Courtney’s professional work is about making connections and developing leadership.”

The award consists of a citation and $1,000. The award will be presented at the GODORT Awards Program at the Annual Conference. In addition, recognition of the recipient will also take place at beginning of the Stonewall Book Awards Program held at the Annual Conference on June 25, 2018.
