CHICAGO — , director of the Palo Alto (California) City Library, has been elected 2018-2019 president of the Public Library Association (PLA). She will serve a three-year term beginning after 2017 Annual Conference in June, including one year each as president-elect (2017–2018), president (2018–2019) and past-president (2019–2020).

Upon learning the outcome of the election, Ziesenhenne remarked, “I’m excited and honored to be selected as PLA president for 2018-2019. I look forward to working with the PLA to support all public libraries at this time, when librarians must be leaders in their communities.”

Ziesenhenne has spent her entire career working in public libraries around Northern California, and has served as director of the Palo Alto City Library since May 2011. She holds a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley and is nearing completion of a doctorate in Managerial Leadership in Information Professions from Simmons College (Boston). Ziesenhenne is also a chief executive fellow for National Arts Strategies and a former president of the California Library Association. She lives in Richmond, California, with her husband, John, and has three adult children.

PLA members also elected two new directors at large: , director of the Calvert (Maryland) Library and , Denver city librarian. , director of the Hillsboro (Oregon) Public Library, was elected division councilor. Each will serve a three-year term beginning after the 2017 Annual Conference.

PLA thanks all the candidates who stood for election as well as all the members who voted. Their efforts to impact and enhance PLA are extremely valuable to the future of the organization.
