CHICAGO—The recipient of the 2017 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Outstanding Publication Award is Dawn Hale for her edited volume, ““ ( Editions, 2016).

The Outstanding Publication Award is given annually to honor the author or authors of the year's outstanding monograph, article or original paper in the field of technical services, including acquisitions, cataloging, collection management, preservation, continuing resources and related areas in the library field. Dawn Hale will receive a citation and a $250 monetary award on June 24 at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2017 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Chicago.

“Shared Collections: Collaborative Stewardship” presents a topic that is timely, historical and forward-thinking: how libraries can work collaboratively to build collections. The digital age has vastly changed how libraries provide access to resources, as well as how libraries view large collections of print materials that may be duplicated in many places. As editor, Hale has smartly compiled this volume that presents the issues surrounding shared collections and collaborative endeavors, walks through a wide array of practical case studies and then brings the different themes together while considering future directions. Each case study presents a different area in which libraries are working together to develop shared collections. Taken as a whole, they cover multiple ways that libraries can collaborate across formats, subject areas and aggregated access. The volume enables librarians to develop a sense of purpose and direction for the future, even as the definition of collections continues to change.

Dawn Hale served as the head of technical services at the Sheridan Libraries, Johns Hopkins University, where she was responsible for the library’s acquisitions, cataloging and e-resources management and access. She retired in February 2017. She has served on the Editorial Board of the ALCTS Monographs Series, on the LRTS Editorial Board, the Ross Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award Jury, the Committee on Professional Ethics, the Standards Committee and various LITA scholarship committees, as well as on several OCLC groups.

The (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app.
