CHICAGO — The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) announces that Paige G. Andrew is the recipient of the 2016 Margaret Mann Citation presented by its Cataloging and Metadata Management Section (CaMMS). The Mann Citation will be presented on June 25 at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony at the 2016 °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app () Annual Conference in Orlando.

The Mann Citation, recognizing outstanding professional achievement in cataloging or classification, includes a $2,000 scholarship donated in the recipient’s honor by to the library school of the winner’s choice. Andrew has chosen his alma mater, the to be the recipient of this year’s scholarship award.

Andrew’s contributions to map cataloging are many and outstanding. Throughout the past twenty years, he has contributed in exceptional ways to the practice and teaching of map cataloging across the country through his instruction, publications, leadership and mentorship.

A national expert in the field, Andrew has taught numerous workshops, participates actively in policy discussions at the national level, and collaborates actively with other map catalogers, including those at the Library of Congress Geography & Map Division. He is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including and the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS), where he serves as the MAGIRT liaison.

In the map cataloging community, he interacts regularly in discussions on listservs related to map cataloging, dispensing helpful advice based on his extensive experience and furthering everyone’s understanding of the issues and solutions. In 2002, he co-founded the “Journal of Map & Geography Libraries: Advances in Geospatial Information, Collections & Archives,” which he still co-edits today. The journal fills an important research gap that existed in map librarianship and after a decade of publication, the journal still serves as a leading platform for important discussions in map librarianship issues.

When the new content standard for cataloging was published in 2010, “RDA: Resource Description and Access,” Andrew took the lead in providing guidance in several ways through this confusing set of standards. First by creating webinars and conference presentations aimed to guide others through the process of applying RDA, but most importantly, by co-authoring a concise pragmatic book entitled “RDA and Cartographic Resources.” Published by Editions in 2014, the book has helped catalogers make the transition to RDA and soon after became the authoritative text on the subject nationally and internationally.

Andrew has worked as the maps cataloging librarian at the Pennsylvania State University Libraries since 1995. He received tenure in 2001 and was promoted to Librarian in 2012.
