CHICAGO — A Mashcat panel is the featured presentation at the Midwinter Forum of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) at the upcoming Midwinter Meeting in Boston. The Forum takes place on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, room 204AB.

Library cataloging and metadata people and library software and systems people have a lot in common and a lot to collaborate together on to better serve our patrons… but sometimes there have been barriers to that collaboration. is a banner under which libraries can gather together to work past those barriers.

Mashcat started as a conference in the UK in 2012, but three years later Mashcat lives again. They aim to work together and bridge the communications gap that has sometimes gotten in the way of building the best tools they possibly can to manage library data. Activities for the current iteration of Mashcat include a monthly Twitter chat, a Slack channel, a one-day meeting following Midwinter, and forthcoming webinars.

For the ALCTS Forum, Mashcat regulars Erin Leach, Galen Charlton, Shana McDanold, and others will participate in a panel discussion moderated by ALCTS president Norm Medeiros. They will discuss ways of fostering collaboration and communication between the data and systems sides of the house.

ALCTS is a division of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app. An international member-driven association, ALCTS engages the library community on issues and policies that affect the acquisition, management, discovery, and preservation of library collections.
