PHILADELPHIA — The 2014 Stonewall Book Awards were announced yesterday and today by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) of the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app (), during the Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.

The Stonewall Book Awards are given annually to English-language works of exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience and include the Stonewall Book Awards – Mike Morgan & Larry Romans Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award, the Stonewall Book Awards – Barbara Gittings Literature award and the Stonewall Book Awards – Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award. The awards will be presented to the winning authors or editors at the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app Annual Conference in Las Vegas in June.

“The Stonewall Book Awards try to represent the best books about GLBT people. This year the committee has selected a number of powerful and impressive titles that we hope will entertain, educate and broaden the readers horizons,” said Stonewall Book Awards Committee Chair Peter Coyl.

The Stonewall Book Awards – Mike Morgan & Larry Romans Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award, part of the Youth Media Awards, was presented to two titles:

• “Beautiful Music for Ugly Children,” written by Kirstin Cronn-Mills and published by Flux, an imprint of Llewellyn Worldwide Ltd. and
• “Fat Angie,” written by e.E. Charlton-Trujillo and published by Candlewick Press.

Three Stonewall Book Awards - Children’s and Young Adult Award Honor Books were named:

• “Better Nate than Ever,” written by Tim Federle and published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.
• “Branded by the Pink Triangle,” written by Ken Setterington and published by Second Story Press.
• “Two Boys Kissing,” written by David Levithan and published by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books.

The Stonewall Book Awards – Barbara Gittings Literature Award was given to “Art on Fire,” written by Hilary Sloin and published by Bywater Books.

Three Stonewall Book Awards – Barbara Gittings Literature Award Honor Books were named:

• “A Strange and Separate People,” written by Jon Marans and published by Chelsea Station Editions.
• “Everything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club,” written by Benjamin Alire Saenz and published by Cinco Puntos Press.
• “The Rebellion of Miss Lucy Ann Lobdel,” written by William Klaber and published by Greenleaf Book Group Press, an imprint of Greenleaf Book Group.

The Stonewall Book Awards – Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award was given to two titles:

• “American Honor Killings: Desire and Rage among Men,” written by David McConnell and published by Akashic Books and
• “Raising My Rainbow: Adventures in Raising a Fabulous, Gender Creative Son,” written by Lori Duron and published by Broadway Books, an imprint of Crown Publishing, a division of Random House, Inc.

Two Stonewall Book Awards – Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award Honor Books were named:

• “A Little Gay History: Desire and Diversity Across the World,” written by R.B. Parkinson and published by Columbia University Press.
• “Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father,” written by Alysia Abbott and published by W.W. Norton and Company.
