Project Description:

Curating the school library’s collection is one of the most recognized aspects of a school librarian’s job. However, the process of thoughtfully curating resources goes beyond knowing the popular titles for which learners are likely to read. As information becomes more readily available in new and expanding ways, and as more people become invested in what school libraries provide and how students access information, the job of curating resources is an increasingly complex one. Learners need access to both a variety of reliable resources and modeling of how to curate resources for their own needs. School librarians are both curators and instructors of curation skills. To support school librarians as they strive to develop learners—students and educators alike—who critically curate their own resources and include multiple perspectives, the AASL tasked an Emerging Leaders Team D with developing an activity guide with resources focused on the Curate Shared Foundation in the National School Library Standards. This Emerging Leaders team designed and curated resources to support librarians as they create school libraries that are inclusive learning spaces of information access and knowledge sharing for both learners and fellow educators.
