Children’s literature is constantly evolving as authors, educators, and psychologists increase our understanding of how children learn and read. The emergence of genre blends, or hybrid novels, has opened the door to new possibilities and ideas and has led to books that appeal to broader audiences.
Presented by librarians Pauline Dewan and Meagan Lacy, this webinar will help library staff who work with children's collections become familiar with this new type of literature so that they can better serve their young patrons. Participants will be introduced to the most in-demand genre blends for children and gain a working knowledge of this new type of book.

Do you love children’s literature and researching? The Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship could be right for you. Selected fellows receive up to $7,500 to visit and study at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature of the George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, Gainesville. Applications are due October 15, 2024.
New to the field of children’s librarianship and want to attend your first Annual Conference next June in Philadelphia? The Penguin Random House Young Readers Group Award may be just the ticket. Two librarians will be chosen to attend and given $1,200 to help offset costs. Applications are due November 15, 2024.

Emerging Leaders is a leadership development program that enables newer library workers from across the country and Canada to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. It puts participants on the fast track to committee volunteerism as well as other professional library-related organizations.

Applications Open for I Love My Librarian Award

invites library users nationwide to submit nominations for the through September 30, 2024! Ten librarians will each receive $5,000 in recognition of their outstanding achievements and will be honored at the I Love My Librarian Award ceremony at the 2025 LibLearnX Conference in Phoenix. Honorees also receive free full conference registration as part of their award package.
Since the award was established in 2008, library users nationwide have submitted more than 22,000 nominations detailing how librarians transformed their communities through innovative programs, increasing access to resources and services, and promoting literacy. 160 librarians have received this distinguished honor!

New Resource on Information Literacy Development

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) recently released , a website with specialized tools and resources to support library and museum professionals in engaging diverse communities in developing critical information literacy skills.
The new resources focus on financial, health, digital, and other information literacy subject areas. Key features of the website are toolkits that include lesson plans, community engagement materials, and suggestions for partnership outreach. In addition to libraries and museums, efforts are focused on disseminating training and technical assistance resources to professionals in zoos, aquaria, botanical gardens, arboretums, nature and science centers, archives, and other community-serving institutions.
