Approved by the ALSC Board of Directors June 2023

In 2022, the ALSC Board of Directors began the process of updating the association's strategic plan. In parsing through this work, the board distinguished between the overarching commitments that undergird any of ALSC's work and the strategic priorities and initiatives the board elected to focus on in the coming years. Working through these distinctions helped make the association's strategic priorities both actionable and measurable, while still honoring those priorities which drive the work of ALSC as an organization.

The new strategic plan focuses on literacy and media evaluation as it relates to children from birth to age 14. To ensure that this work in literacy and media evaluation meets our core values and positively affects all children, we also focus internally on work that centers on connection; equity, diversity and inclusion; and organizational excellence.

The ALSC strategic plan was informed by member surveys in both synchronous and asynchronous settings; small group member interviews; and meetings with ALSC leadership and staff. In this process, we hoped to clearly align the association's work - current and future - with our strategic priorities, as well as give ALSC the flexibility to make shifts and changes based on future needs.

ALSC staff report on the progress in meeting the strategic plan's goals through regular reports to the ALSC Board and annually to membership.
