In response to the need for improved efficiency and reliability in subject authority control, Chan and Vizine-Goetz explored, and convincingly demonstrated, the feasibility of automatically creating a subject heading validation file. Their article describes applied research of a very high order and quality and presents the results in a clear, well-organized style. The authors provide a practical solution to a problem which affects a broad range of libraries. The article is superior in the scope of the problem addressed, the clarity of analysis and presentation, and the potential for substantive benefit from its application.
