The scholarship is to be given once a year to a Masters degree candidate in Library Science who intends to work professionally with media collections in libraries. The purpose is to provide financial assistance and encouragement to developing media librarians. This scholarship honors the legacy of deg farrelly and his commitment to media librarianship, and the preservation of and access to media materials - a commitment shared by both AMIA (Association of Moving Image Archivists, an organization not affiliated with ) and FMRT (the Film & Media Round Table).
