A visionary in the modernization of the communication patterns of our profession, Walter Henry created and maintained indispensable tools for communication and dissemination of knowledge in the preservation field. With these tools, Conservation OnLine (CoOL) and the Conservation DistList, Henry’s innovative use of technologies has provided the infrastructure for information exchange that has shaped the field of conservation to the great benefit of American libraries. In CoOL Henry has not only organized and disseminated the information that individuals need, but furthered the goals of many preservation organizations through their presence on CoOL. Henry’s long career spans conservation treatment, preservation of non-print collections, creation of preservation-application computer programs, and support for a digital repository. His professional service has reached national, regional, and state constituencies. Henry’s information tools serve a global audience.
