Culture in America's British colonies was shaped by the earlier New Netherland
colony, owned and operated by the Dutch West Indies Co. Yet New Netherland has
been overlooked because the records have been unavailable in English, until recently. Douglas (New York State Talking Book & Braille Lib.) reports on the New Netherland Project, which since 1974 has translated and published the official records of the company in New Netherland, revealing an unfamiliar
part of the American experience.
