Pamela Bluh has been an inspiration in developing best practices in serials librarianship and in establishing continuing education for serials issues, including the creation of institutes on topics of emerging importance. She has written extensively and has served as an editor in numerous capacities, particularly for ALCTS. Her work has helped significantly to disseminate discussions about the treatment of electronic resources. Pamela is actively involved in important organizational work, creating productive, supportive relationships among individuals and organizations in the library and information community.

The award is given for distinguished contributions to serials librarianship, including but not limited to those made within the previous three years, demonstrated by such activities as leadership in serials-related activities through participation in professional associations and/or library education programs, contributions to the body of serials literature, conduct of research in the area of serials, development of tools or methods to enhance access to or management of serials, other advances leading to a better understanding of the field of serials.
