"Assessing the Cost and Value of Bibliographic Control" directly tackles the central question faced by technical services administrators and catalogers today—how can we measure the value of what we do? The seven "operational definitions of value" laid out by the ALCTS Task Force on Cost/Value Assessment of Bibliographic Control and elaborated in the article provide a common vocabulary for establishing the value of bibliographic control, and the article additionally suggests research topics to advance our understanding of how successfully bibliographic control is supporting these values.
