EMIERT Distinguished Librarian Award

The EMIERT Distinguished Librarian Award recognizes significant accomplishments in library services that are national or international in scope and that include improving, spreading, and promoting multicultural services in libraries. Nominees must have a Master's of Library Science degree from an accredited institution.

Persons in the library world are eligible to be considered for the award based on outstanding achievement and leadership in serving the community by significant collection building and outreach services, and/or developing creative multicultural materials and programs. Emphasis here is multicultural/multiethnic as distinguished from multilingual.

This award replaces the award previously sponsored by GALE known as the GALE Multicultural Award  (http://www.ala.org/awardsgrants/gale-multicultural-award).

The recipient of the award receives a commemorative plaque and a $500 honorarium to be presented during the EMIERT President’s Program at the Annual Conference.
