What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app

As an academic librarian, I aim to contribute all of my professional skills for the advancement of our college community. I continuously provide research and information literacy instruction to students within our library, and I work with our faculty to ensure that these skills are present within their classrooms. I have given several campus-wide presentations on a variety of topics and technologies (e.g. primary sources, virtual reality, etc.), and I have used my dual roles at the college (librarian & history professor) to demonstrate the value of having a prolonged library presence within a college classroom. In addition, I have joined several campus committees and projects that allow me to share my insight as an academic librarian.

Academic librarians are needed more than ever before. What was once seen as a dying profession has become, in the eyes of many, a profession with a renewed purpose. With the changing landscape of education, the emergence of new technologies, and the influx of information, we are tasked with providing learners with direction, knowledge, and stability. In order to meet these changes and needs, academic librarians must continue to seek professional development and share their knowledge and skills within their institutions, and outside of it. Academic libraries must continue to be the heart of educational institutions and the driving force of progression. I truly believe that we are all willing and ready to rise to this challenge. Time will once again show that academic libraries are not a luxury, but rather a necessity.
