Describe ACRL in three words:

Committed, versatile, supportive.

What do you value about ACRL?

°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app

I love the networking opportunities and sense of community. I got so much out of the conference, and almost a year later, I am still actively using what I learned there to create positive changes at my institution. Their catalog of professional development books is robust, and I often find so much information in their texts. I have often reached out to chapter authors for more information, and they are always happy to jump on a zoom call and talk through ideas with me. It's just a wonderful group of information professionals who are always exchanging ideas to better their patrons.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±app

What I like about my role as the Student Success Librarian is I am often collaborating with people from a variety of campus offices, departments, and student groups to create a sense of belonging for our students and an environment in which they can succeed. I advocate beyond information literacy and strive to serve the whole student. I've led accessibility initiatives to ensure the library and our campus is more accessible to neurodivergent students, and I have also started a food and personal hygiene pantry in the library to serve our students. Many people compliment me for the amount of care I put into my work, and so many students and colleagues across campus have thanked me for actively working to make the library a safe space on campus for everyone.

I truly love my job. It rarely feels like work. It helps a lot that I have support from my supervisors, and I have an amazing group of co-workers in the library to help make my wild ideas a reality. I am very lucky to also have an awesome group of students that I work with on outreach and marketing efforts, and I would be nothing without them. Working in this field has allowed me to bring happiness to so many people through the power of books and information. Who knew that being a librarian could mean getting paid to pet a reindeer, run a book fair, or hand out free ice cream? I love every minute of what I do, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Being a librarian, truly, is the best gig there is!
